BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
MAY 13, 2019

MINUTES

President Sue Wells called the meeting to order at 5:26.

Members Present: Debbie Clark, Stephanie Hart, Doris Heaton, Pat Hollada, Chris Jerrells, Kathy Storey, and Sue Wells

Members Absent: None

Also Present: Pat Dobrzynski, Ruth Lewis, Michael McGuire, Henry Stickel, Director Susan Stickel, and Judge Thomas Tedeschi

Judge Tedeschi presided over the swearing in ceremony of reelected Trustee Pat Hollada and newly elected Trustee Chris Jerrells.

Michael McGuire was present to answer any questions from the Board and to obtain the Board President’s signature on the contract to begin work of the Reading Garden. A tentative start date to begin work is July 2019.

Motion by Debbie Clark, seconded by Pat Hollada to have Susan contact A & L Tree Service to remove one sweet gum tree that hinders construction of the pavilion passed. All were in favor.

Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart to approve the minutes of the April board meeting passed. All were in favor.

Motion by Stephanie Hart, seconded by Debbie Clark to approve the payment of bills passed. All were in favor.

Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart to approve the financial reports passed. All were in favor.

The appointed board offices will remain the same with the exception of Vice President. Pat Hollada motioned, Debbie Clark seconded for Sue Wells to retain the office of Board President. Stephanie Hart made a motion for Debbie Clark to accept the office. Debbie Clark declined and the motion was made by Doris Heaton and seconded by Stephanie Hart for Sue Wells to remain President of the Board of Trustees passed. All were in favor. Notion by Stephanie Hart, seconded by Debbie Clark for the offices of treasurer and secretary to remain the same passed. All were in favor. Motion by Stephanie Hart, seconded by Doris Heaton for Chris Jerrells to be appointed Vice President passed. All were in favor.

Librarian’s Report:

Maintenance:

Severin’s Lawn & Garden trimmed the weeping cherry tree on the south side of the library building.

The Benton Fire Department repaired the eagle weathervane.

Community Outreach:

Employee Norma Minor promoted the library at the Head Start event at North Benton Baptist Church.

The library promoted the Reading Garden by entering a float in the Rend Lake Parade.

Programming:

The annual Easter Egg Hunt registered 160 children plus their parents.

Staff Trainings:

Barcoding 1 & 2 classes and Cloud Library training was held in the meeting room and offered to all employees wishing to participate.

Memorials and Donations:

A donation was given to the genealogy department. A memorial brick for Mr. Don Aiken was purchased. A gift brick honoring Jayna Hart was purchased. Another memorial donation for the library’s gazebo in honor of Arthur Dobrzynski was received this month. Memorials are continuing to be received in memory of Katherine Sanford.

Old Business:

Personnel was moved to the end of the board meeting.

New Business:

There will be a budget hearing fifteen minutes prior to the July 8th regular board meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Other Business:

Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart to hire Watler Accounting to perform the annual audit of the library.

Executive session was called at 7:00 pm to discuss annual pay raises. The regular board meeting resumed at 7:28 pm. Motion was made by Debbie Clark, seconded by Doris Heaton toapprove a 2 percent pay increase for all salary and hourly paid staff effective July 1, 2019 through June 30th, 2020 passed unanimously by roll call vote.

Motion by Debbie Clark, seconded by Kathy Storey to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 pm.
