The Homebound Program currently is serving 14 individuals. The staff fundraiser sale was again a success, reaching more than their goal of $500.00 which will also be matched by a local organization in the community. A bookshelf was awarded to another child who participated in the Children’s 1,000 Book Challenge program.

Regarding maintenance of the library, the lawn has been taken care of for winter, painting has been completed where needed, the fence has been installed, and Pepsi has replaced the library’s soda machine.

The 208 Per Capita and Live & Learn Grants were received this month.

Old Business:

The children’s area is progressing enough that it is time to name the area. The choices that have been mentioned by the board are the following: Lillie’s Garden, Lillie’s Woods, Lillie’s Reading Center, & Lillie’s Reading Garden. Of the names suggested, “Lillie’s Reading Garden” was chosen among the board. When a name is approved, plans are to place it in an arch-like fashion at the front entrance gate.

Throughout the park there will be memorials recognizing the generosity of so many people in the community. There will be a plaque honoring Mrs. Seymour and Mrs. Murphy for their work many years ago in the planting of many of the beautiful trees that provide shade for the project.

The board wants to dedicate the pavilion to the children of Benton. They are wanting as open pavilion similar to the one at the Benton Park. It is to have a green metal roof, a 4 inch concrete floor with a 4 inch gravel base. It will be handicap accessible. Susan will obtain estimates for the project.

Susan will get an estimate for a graveled parking lot and present at the November meeting.
