Librarian’s Report:

  • Susan thanked Debbie, Henry and crew for showing up to help decorate the Reading Garden for Christmas.
  • The car business next door started moving some of their things out. They will probably be leaving some things for us to deal with once they are gone.
  • We haven’t heard anything new from the railroad about the property.
  • Update on Henry: He has been released on light duty with restrictions. Susan said he has been to the surgeon and therapist working on movement of fingers and knuckles. He is not experiencing any pain.
  • The fence: It is going to be painted on January 6th. It should be installed in February around the ship.
  • There is nothing new to report about the vandalism except the police authorities are watching social media to see if anyone mentions it. The graffiti on the ship will be sanded of once the fence is installed.
  • We did not get Cyber Protection. All of the applications were filled out, and Susan had Hillary from SCD Rea talk to them, but we apparently did not get accepted due to the lack of sensitive material/information that we store.
  • The CD for the Library is coming up for maturity on December 18th. It is currently worth #204,000. We are going to let it roll over. Kathy is going to look into current rates.
  • The Lazerware lease on the computers was extended to add an additional staff computer.
  • The copy machine is in need of replacing. Susan keeps having to get ot repaired. We are going to have her check into prices for a new one with different places.
  • Rend Lake College is wanting to use our facility to house GED classes. We would check out the laptops to the students and they would Zoom conference to them from our building.

Old Business:

Personnel:

  • It was brought up about giving Kim a vacation with her salaried pay. We agreed for her to have one week a year, starting back with October 1st. This needs to be taken before October 1st of next year. We will come back to further examine this topic.

New Business

  • Ordinance 105-21 Board Meeting dates and times for 2022. We all agreed that Monday nights at 5:30 pm were good with all of us.
  • The 2022 holiday schedule for the Benton Public Library will be the same as last year, except for the addition of Juneteenth (June 19th) , a federal holiday.
  • Employee appreciation- We agreed to continue to reward employees with a $30 Wal-mart gift card like last year. It was suggested to possibly give out a survey to see what locations employees might like a gift card from for next year.
  • Per Capita Grant Requirement is being worked on by Susan.
  • Blue Library Standards books were passed out and to be read by Sue, Brian, and Sara.
