The meeting was called to order at 5:30
Members Present: Deborah Clark, Stephanie Hart, Doris Heaton, Pat Hollada, Kathy Storey, and Sue Wells
Members Absent: Jake Seymour
Also present: Kim Livesay, LaDonna McNew, Susan Stickel, Janet Storey, and Judge Thomas Tedeschi
Judge Tedeschi was present to swear in new and reelected board members.
Representatives from Watler Accounting presented the audit.
Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart to approve the January, and special board meeting minutes of February 20th, and April 20th passed.
Motion by Stephanie Hart, seconded by Kathy Storey to approve payment of bills & financials for February, March, April, & May passed.
Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart for elected officers to retain their offices passed. All were in favor.
Susan reported the library will be receiving the Per-Capita grant in the amount of $7,896.39 and the Live & Learn Construction grant in the amount of $8,849.00. A portion of the Per-Capita grant will be used to improve sidewalk handicap accessibility at the library and the Live & Learn Construction grant will be used solely for window control shades throughout the building.
The 1st annual Easter egg hunt was a huge success. More than 175 children attended with their parents bringing the total attendance to approximately 300.
Susan reported the library will be entering a float in the parade this year to help advertise the summer reading program. Plans are underway for the popular summer reading program and a rocket building class. A replica display of the PT 109 will be available until the end of May commemorating the 100th birthday of President John F. Kennedy.
The lighting in the “Freedom Plaza” will need to be replaced. Initially in ground lighting was installed but condensation is causing issues. A different type of lighting will be installed soon.
The planter that was donated to the library from The Town & Country Gardener’s Club has broken. This was not an act of vandalism. Susan is in contact with some of the ladies regarding future plans for the space.
Staff member Barbara Schmidt suggested another staff rummage sale, as they have been successful in the past. This will be something that will be done again sometime in the near future.
Susan reported the positive feedback received about the library’s genealogy room.
Another beautiful picture from a local artist has been donated to be placed on the library’s art wall.
Susan requested an automatic door operator for an interior door of the building to better accommodate patrons.
Also a request for a subscription to Ancestory.com has been made by Susan.
Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Stephanie Hart to hire Pam Teague part time, minimum wage in the genealogy department. All were in favor.
Motion by Doris Heaton, seconded by Pat Hollada to approve the contract payment schedule regarding the roof.
Susan was instructed to obtain quotes on the removal of a tree on the west lawn and it was suggested that in its place another October Glory Red Maple be planted. Recently the board approved the purchase and planting of an October Glory Red Maple to commemorate the centennial celebration that was held a year ago on May 21st, 2016. She also was instructed to obtain a quote on an automatic door operator for the interior door of the building and to obtain auditor quotes for the next fiscal year.
Susan was asked to locate the original plans for the children’s area on the southeast side of the building.
