BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MINUTES
AUGUST 9, 2016
5:30 PM

The meeting was called to order by president Sue Wells at 5:37.

Members Present: Doris Heaton, Sammy Kraft, Kathy Storey and Sue Wells.

Members Absent: Stephanie Hart, Christopher Lower and Jake Seymour

Also Present: Susan Stickel

Motion by Sammy Kraft and seconded by Kathy Storey to approve the July 12, 2016 minutes passed.

Motion by Doris Heaton and seconded by Sammy Kraft to approve payment of bills passed.

Motion by Kathy Storey and seconded by Doris Heaton to approve the financial reports passed.

Librarian’s Report: Susan received information regarding the audit firm of Wilcox McCorkle & Company, LTD. Watler Accounting has acquired the practice of Wilcox, McCorkle & Company, LTD. Doris Heaton made the motion and Sammy Kraft seconded to have Watler Accounting perform the annual audit of the library. All were in favor, motion carried.

Susan reported Summer Reading Program was a success and that she and the staff enjoyed taking part in the program. A thank you was sent to Rob Lowery for his donation of ice to the program. Costs were low as the library was able to use Pepsi products left over from the Centennial celebration as well as supplies and prizes that were already on hand from years past.

Old Business: After much discussion, the board agreed Wilbur VanHorn, longtime roofing contractor, be contacted for his opinion on the roof situation. Sammy Kraft will try and contact him. Sue Wells will research attorneys to possibly see if the library has any type of recourse in this matter. Kathy Storey suggested a special board meeting if necessary.

Director Susan Stickel received her annual evaluation. Sammy Kraft made the motion and Doris Heaton seconded to raise Susan’s salary to $35,000.00 retroactive July 1, 2016. All were in favor, motion passed.

Doris Heaton made the motion, Kathy Storey seconded, to pay $12.00 per hour for part time maintenance employee Henry Stickel. All were in favor, motion passed.

Sammy Kraft will be in contact with Susan regarding disposal of unneeded metal that has no useful purpose for the building.

The subject of computer passes was brought up by Susan. The board clarified that after three free passes per month, patrons would then be charged the $5.00 fee.

New Business: Susan reported storm damage the library received the 13th of July. Included in the insurance claim were 2 surge protectors, a 16 camera DVR, and the power supply to the copy machine. She is in contact with the insurance company and the library will be receiving a check minus the deductible.

The IPLAR is due September 1st. This is ans annual report that Susan is currently working on.

A corrections facility contacted the library to offer to digitize the yearbooks. This is a rehabilitation program for inmates. It was decided that yearbooks would not be sent out for this service. Some are in fragile condition. They will be scanned in house instead. A special type of scanner will be purchased.

No public present at the meeting.
